The API lifecycle has two parts—the awesome and the suck. The suck is the activation energy of acclimating to a new API, learning its primitives and quirks. Later on it's downtime or an unexpected 500 response. The awesome is easy—it's the API working for you, giving you the value (or data) you want out of it.

A seemingly universal truth about engineers is that they like to complain about the codebases and technologies that they are tasked with working on. When it's a small, early-stage startup, those complaints are typically aimed at databases (ππ» Mongo), web app frameworks (ππ» Expresss), or third-party dependencies (ππ» npm & co). As the company and its codebases grow, those complaints are eventually going to be directed towards internal codebases.
